Hailing calls for the Crown Estate to be devolved, Banff and Buchan MP Dr.Eilidh Whiteford said the SNP would seek to amend the Scotland Bill and ensure that coastal communities in the North-East are able to receive their share of the vast potential renewables windfall.

Dr. Whiteford said:

"The devolution of the Crown Estate to Scotland is a fantastic opportunity for the people of North-East of Scotland. Control over our seabed would net local communities a massive windfall that they could access directly to invest in local facilities and services.

"Scotland has missed out on our oil wealth and we must not let the same happen again with our renewables future.

"This money belongs to the people of Scotland and should go to help those very same people. Currently and contrary to what the London based media like the Mail on Sunday claim, the vast majority of the money from the Crown Estate goes right into the Treasury's pocket.

"This is a huge generational chance to ensure that local people benefit from their local resources. The Scotland Bill must go further and ensure that the Crown Estate is devolved to Scotland where it belongs.

"What's more, it is quite disgraceful that David Mundell - whose job as a Scottish Minister is supposed to be to fight for Scotland - is opposing this move. He has revealed that far from fighting for Scotland, he is fighting for the Tory exchequer at the expense of the people of the North-East.
