NEW CHALLENGE FOR GRAY ABOUT LABOUR’S TAX PLANS
FOULKES SUGGESTS INCREASING INCOME TAX
SNP MSP Kenneth Gibson is challenging Iain Gray to say if he would increase income tax by up to 3 pence after his fellow Labour MSP, Lord George Foulkes, suggested that it be used by the Finance Secretary.
This latest tax increase suggested by Labour follows Iain Gray’s endorsement of increasing the council tax burden on Scots. He signed Labour up to Council Tax rises next year – without saying how much he wants to increase it by.
Commenting Mr Gibson said:
“First we had Iain Gray admitting he would put the council tax up. Now we have Lord George Foulkes suggesting that income tax be increased by up to 3p.
“At a time when the SNP is working to keep costs down for hard pressed families Labour are yet again trying to push them up. It is clear Labour no longer care about the difficulties facing Scottish households and plan to increase the tax burden on Scottish families.
“It says a lot about the Labour party that in economic difficulty their first instinct is to push up taxes and punish the Scottish people.
“Two thirds of the cuts facing Scotland this year were introduced by Labour - a fact they fail to acknowledge. So how much more will the Labour leader ask the people of Scotland to pay for Labour’s broken economy.”
