Responding to David Cameron’s speech at Conservative Conference SNP Depute
Leader and Scotland’s Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said:
“David Cameron revealed his true Tory colours today.
“The Prime Minister showed disrespect to Scotland with his determination
to put unwanted new nuclear weapons in the Clyde, when he should be
protecting the carrier contracts and RAF bases.
“The truth is that David Cameron’s Con/Dem government is cutting
Scotland’s budget too far and too fast, and damaging our economy.
“As Scotland faces up to the Tory/Liberal cuts on top of those already put
in train by Labour, it is only with a Scottish Parliament with full
financial and economic powers that we can grow Scotland’s economy and
boost revenues to invest in our health, education and public services.
“David Cameron and the Tories oppose the right of the people to choose
Scotland’s future, and have ganged up with Labour and the Lib Dems to vote
down a referendum offering independence – the Prime Minister lectures
Scots in Birmingham, but isn’t prepared to take his case to the doorsteps
in Scotland.”
Responding to David Cameron’s comments on the release of Al Megragi Ms
Sturgeon added:
“David Cameron appears not to understand the reality of Scottish
self-government – which shows more Tory disrespect for Scotland.
Regardless of people’s opinion, the decision was Scotland’s to take on the
basis of the due process of Scots Law – which was done to the letter. Any
attempt by Tories at Westminster to interfere with Scotland’s justice
system would be vigorously resisted north of the Border, by people of all
political persuasions and none.”
