The SNP today reaffirmed its commitment to concessionary travel as a report by Audit Scotland criticised the previous Executive’s failure to keep track of the costs as they allowed a ticketing system to increase from £9 million to £43 million.
The SNP has guaranteed concessionary travel and its extension to disabled veterans ahead of this years budget.
SNP MSP for Glasgow Sandra White said:
“The SNP is committed to keeping concessionary travel for Scotland’s pensioners despite the budget cuts put in place by Labour, Lib Dem and Tories.
“What is shocking is that when this scheme was introduced the Labour and Lib Dem Government said it would cost £9 million to introduce ticketing technology that has now cost £43 million. Labour’s disregard for taxpayers cash is part of the shocking legacy they have left the country.
“The SNP will protect concessionary travel for Scotland’s pensioners from Labour’s debts and will extend it to disabled veterans.”
