PARTY AT SIXES AND SEVENS OVER COUNCIL TAX FREEZE

SNP MSP for Cunninghame North, Kenneth Gibson has called on the Scottish
Liberal Democrats to 'walk the talk' over their calls for a more just
society.

The call comes as the Scottish Lib Dem leader Tavish Scott put forward a
“fairness agenda” - despite calling for a council tax rise in Scotland
whilst delivering a tax freeze in England.

Commenting, Kenneth Gibson MSP said:

"The Liberal Democrats back Labour’s council tax bombshell in Scotland,
yet are delivering a council tax freeze for England.

"A council tax hike would be disastrous - hitting the poorest and
pensioners hardest. Politicians should be helping people through the tough
times. Not making life harder.

"Tavish Scott's speech is just another example of the habitual hypocrisy
the Scottish Liberal Democrats indulge in. He claims to want a fair
society yet Lib Dem MSPs are calling for council tax hikes in Scotland
whilst Lib Dem Ministers in London freeze it South of the Border.

"If the Scottish Lib Dems do believe in a fairness agenda, it's time for
them to start 'walking the talk' and opposing any rise in council tax in
Scotland."

"These alarming figures show that we have been right to ask questions on
the impact of the lowest income families of the SNP council tax freeze."
