Commenting on remarks by the LibDems Holyrood finance spokesperson, Jeremy Purvis, where he voiced support for Iain Gray’s plans to stop the council tax freeze SNP MSP Linda Fabiani – a member of the Scottish Parliament’s Finance Committee - said had blundered badly since his own party was supporting a council tax freeze south of the border.
Commenting Ms Fabiani said:
“Mr Purvis’s remarks are an embarrassment for his party and will come back to haunt his party at the polls in Scotland. It is astonishing that he should make such a double blunder.
“Not only is he expecting ordinary Scots to pay for the economic mess labour created, but south of the border his very own party are supporting a council tax freeze. So his stupid remarks equally apply to his colleagues in England.
“Council tax could increase by almost 20% if Labour’s plans to stop the SNP’s council tax freeze come into and it would appear Jeremy Purvis agrees.
“As Mr Purvis should know from sitting on the Finance Committee the evidence shows that the unfair council tax hits the poorest and pensioners hardest. Yet instead of helping people through the tough times the LibDems in Scotland want them to pay for the tough times.
“The choice facing voters at the next election is between an SNP Government working hard to keep household bills down and to deliver an alternative to the cuts ahead and a Labour party that wants to make the public pay for their mistakes.
